Travailing Intercession The Holy Spirit’s Gift to Answered Prayer

There is one time in the Scripture’s where we see an incredible statement that God actually showed “wonder” about something.  You can see the absurdity of this statement, because God created all things. But in this specific case He wondered that there is no “intercessor”.  I believe that God has shown me the feeling of this dynamic in my own life.  Sometimes when I listen to mature Christians, their prayers are so discouraging that it even causes me to have flashes of desire to lose hope.  

I know that the battle before us is great, but it seems to me that Solomon wrote about the proper response. He said, “The horse is prepared against the day of battle.”  The Egyptian Arabian horse, instead of being spooked when they heard the sound of the battle, would prance and drive forward into the battle with an adrenaline rush.  It’s almost as if the horse’s whole purpose in life was for fighting and not for peace.  So it is with the heart of the intercessor.  They are made for this moment, to be refreshed in battle, not torn by it.

In the early 70′s, when I was as young as a spring chicken, I was deeply in love with my wife, Cindy.  She had given me two lovely babies and was pregnant with her third.  At this time our lives were totally interrupted by my visit to a prison ministry where I gave my heart to the Lord Jesus Christ.  When I went back to my newly-acquired house in San Gabriel, California, I stepped into the living room and saw that the place was still filled with unopened boxes.  We didn’t even have a bed that was set up for the night.  But in this domestic upheaval I went to church with a friend for my first time, leaving my wife and kids behind.  Believe me, this didn’t leave a good impression on my wife at the time, but it was a reflection of my passion for God.

A few months later, during a church service, I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit.  This experience brought dramatic changes to my life and brought something that I could not comprehend.  It was the presence of God in a way that enveloped my reality.  I know that many people have never experienced this spiritual river gushing from the belly.  But I remember when God’s presence came I cried more and more as the gusher of living water, starting with a trickle and then increasing more and more, began flowing over me.

It was such an overwhelming experience, that I began crying in waves.  At that moment an evil voice spoke to me and said, “What are you doing?”  It shocked me so much and I stopped immediately although I could still feel the oil of God’s anointing running off of me.  It was the first time that I’d ever experienced something so contrary to God.  But it was a prelude to many things I would face.  As you might imagine, my family was also trying to comprehend what was happening to dad.

During these early days the Lord led me to a Catholic woman,  Ann Shaw, who said that the Lord told to her He was going to use me in a special way.  This woman was a true intercessor, the first one that I’d ever met.  At the time I didn’t realize the impact that she would have on my life.  Though my family had completely moved into the house in San Gabriel, I was broke and didn’t even own a car.  But Ann, who was so sacrificial, gave me her only car so I could attend Melody Land Christian Center, a school of theology, run by Pastor Ralph Wilkerson.  Ann so much believed in the school that she even paid my tuition, and every day would ride the city bus so I could drive her car to Melody Land.

Things around my house were getting more dicey.  Unknown to me or my family, there was a Santeria group that was meeting across from our house during each month’s full moon.  From the day I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit I had felt demonic pressure in the atmosphere, especially when they were meeting.  Even my kids began to feel the uncomfortableness of a thick darkness that would try to force its curtains within the boundaries of our home.  

I remember one night, during one of these spiritual assaults, God’s voice spoke out in the room.  “The blood of Jesus!” He exclaimed, and then an explosion immediately cleared the air!  I explained this to my wife and children how to do this.  It worked in such a way that my family’s faith grew to such a degree that they entered into the same protection I was being covered by.  I realized at this point that I was learning to become an intercessor.  I would now be able to defend my family against the forces of darkness, just as Ann Shaw had been defending me.

One night I found it necessary to go outside during a full moon, which also was the night of their meeting. One of the men from the Santeria house burst out of the front door in a rage, ran across his yard and into the street where I was standing.  To make this scene clear in your mind, I wasn’t praying or doing anything that, could’ve appeared to be spiritual.  Without any explanation or introduction he wrapped his hands around my neck and started choking the life out of me!  I went down in a panic, gasping for air, as I moved from one conscious state to another, in the body and out of the body.

At that point I shockingly entered into a beam of light that was shining down a long tunnel.  I had left my physical body’s casing, which was still laying helplessly on the ground.  I stopped to watch something going on three miles away.  It was Ann Shaw praying for me.  She was praying in a manner that I had never seen before, she was wailing, groaning and gripping her belly.  A few minutes later my inner being settled back into my body.

Whatever Ann had done prevailed over the spirit of death and it couldn’t keep me.  I was brought back to life while lying there on the street.  The man was gone when I got up and I hobbled back to my house, stunned by the experience.  A few days later I saw Ann again at the San Gabriel Mission prayer meeting.  When I asked her what had happened she said, “The Lord asked me if I would pray for you.  When I responded “Yes, Lord,” something else took over me.  It was not me praying but the Holy Spirit.

This was my first experience of seeing how the Holy Spirit wants to pray through us.  Today I wonder how many times the Holy Spirit has come to me in the night and my response was to just put in a few minutes of prayer.  But then I would awake later in the morning and wonder if there should’ve have been more intercession.  I have noticed that many times God realizes that a need is desperate, but our response is casual and therefore the necessary force against evil doesn’t occur.  God truly knows the importance of the intercessor, but do we understand it?  

The intercessor is not there to complain about how much evil there is, nor to make a list before God of all of the offenses satan is causing in the earth.  Instead, intercessors are to allow the Holy Spirit to make intercession through them to do the will of God.  This is what Ann had done for me and my family, as young Christians, like Abraham had done for his nephew Lot.  Abraham’s conversation with God was very biased.  His only concern was salvation for Lot’s city, Sodom and Gomarah.  It wasn’t about condemning Sodom and Gomarah.

Abraham argued with God to save the city if there were 50 righteous in it.  Then he pleaded for 40, then finally the negotiations ended at 10 righteous people.   Contrast that with those today.  Many so-called intercessors end up joining the enemy’s chorus by complaining about evil.  Instead, they should be taking the role of advocates to argue for mercy upon the righteous, no matter how few they may seem to be.  But please take notice: the advocate arguing for salvation must pray in intercession that is filled with faith.  If you are complaining about evil you don’t need faith at all, because the spirit of your prayer is only condemnation and judgment.  

Ann Shaw may not have even realized how wicked the intentions of the enemy were in my situation.  She entered into the realm of faith so completely that she gave over her physical body to the Holy Spirit.  Through her He made intercession for the saints, (which was me in this case), according to the will of God.  Now that is true agape love with the force of faith behind it.  And believe me, it’s powerful!

I have many other personal stories on this subject.  It’s something that has driven me ever since those early experiences.  I still don’t claim to understand how it all works.  But this I do know.  The Holy Spirit is much better at interceding than I am.  Travailing intercession brings forth the sons of God, and it’s only He who does it.  Amidst all of the stuff that is going on in the world right now, I wonder how much of it would change if we would just say “Yes”, when He comes and asks us to pray ~ and then let Him do wha

1st 11/11/11 A Line In the Sand Preparation Gathering

A Global Ground swell has begun, especially throughout California in anticipation of the 11/11/11 Line In the Sand Gathering.

Dearest Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Throughout the years, many events have come and gone. Though, not unfruitful, —-they were events…!

We believe that the Holy Spirit is preparing hungry hearts for 11/11/11 for something He wants and intends to do! We believe that He will visit us and the nations with an indelible, supernatural, holy visitation!

We believe that the Holy Spirit is coming to empower us for the harvest with visitation as He promised William Seymour over 100 years ago that the whole world will come to experience His Glorious Saving Grace through Jesus Christ His Son.

In anticipation of the 11/11/11 gathering, many senior prophets have asked to come and help prepare God’s people and encourage California as we will serve His purposes throughout the coming months.

About the Rose Bowl Representative Meeting

Pastor Joseph, Michael and myself meet with the Rose Bowl manager.

In the meeting, the representative from the committee gave us an overveiw concerning their expectations as a reality set in that the 11/11/11 gathering could attract well over 25.000.

We have a current commitment of about 6,000 and we are barely getting started. They want us to assure them that the attendance will be less than 25,000 but they prefer not more than 20,000.

Should we decide to go the larger than 25,000, the charges will exponentially go up since they will need to close down the golf course for parking.

So we need to hear from the Holy Spirit as to what He desires.
Some of those that are working with the finaces have said that the event will easily pay for itself and we should go for the 100.000.

The Rose Bowl also asked that we do not use the field, that includes the stage.

We are negotiating. We can easily assemble a stage in the bleachers and many right now say this is the way to go.

About the Rose Bowl Prayer Gathering
Among attendees 10 were from out of state.
Attendees came from as far as Atlanta, Georgia. Wisconsin, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Michigan.
Some that attending represented Salem Broadcasting KKLA,
the Jerusalem Post, the Barnabus Group, and the Chairman of the National Day of Prayer

Global Mobilization in Progress

US East Coast 11/11, Uganda 11/11, Israel 11/11 and Korea 11/11.
Others have stated an interest.
